The Imposter Podcast AU

Welcome to the Imposter Podcast.

The Imposter Podcast is centred around those ubiquitous feelings of imposter syndrome, and trust us - everyone gets them. We aim to explore the idea that many individuals, despite their successes, grapple with feelings of inadequacy and credibility. Our goal? To normalise these conversations, hear from those who have pushed through regardless, and encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zones, and give something new a crack. We know you all have a passion project rattling around in your head; so let's do something about it!

Meet the Imposters:

Al, Burso & Fedora.

Al: Joined the Army Reserve at 17 whilst doing a carpentry apprenticeship. After that he spent a few years in Europe as a Contiki bus driver, running tours in over 20 countries (terrible job). Returning to Australia Al was a first responder for 14 years. Al has had two failed businesses - critical steps in eventually succeeding (at least he hopes), and has now changed direction again with a Youtube channel and The Imposter Podcast.

Find out more about Al in the episode below.

Burso: Spent 9 years in the Australian Regular Army, serving as a combat engineer and a loadmaster in Blackhawk helicopters. After leaving the Army he served 11 years in Victoria Police including time in the Critical Incident Response Team, and as a police negotiator. With a blend of military and police service under his belt, he had a brief flirtation with politics, running in both federal and state elections. Burso's our resident "almost Prime Minister", and wannabe radio jock - Have a listen to Burso’s story here. and if you want to really get to know him, he is kind of a big deal these days making an appearance on Zero Limits Podcast with Matty Morris - Listen here.

Fedora: The man behind the magic, our podcast producer who prefers to stay under the radar and behind his iconic hat but who also gets chronic FOMO! You will find little breadcrumbs about Fedora as we go.

Together, we’re an absolute shambles, but as Burso likes to say, "you miss 100% of the opportunities you don't take" (original quote). So, here we are, giving it a crack! Cause what’s the worst that’s going to happen??

The Challenges:

From the beginning of The Imposter Podcast, community challenges were set to be a key component. The concept is to find challenges for each other, and for our guests, that will make them accountable to all of you, to do something they know deep down they should do or have been putting off. They can have a bit of comedy attached, such as our challenge to Firefighter Dan Caruana to apply for the annual firefighters calendar. But whilst this was a bit cheeky because Dan is a very good friend of ours; the underlying benefit is seeing Dan do some more gym focussed training which Al is sometimes joining him for.

Often during a pod we do not know ahead of time what the challenge will be for the guest, but without fail each guest has inadvertently volunteered multiple things they ‘want to do’ or ‘wish they had done’, such as SJ Brand - our romantic novel writer, who admitted that she has been putting off starting a Patreon page so her readers can support her to fund a professional editor. Within days of being challenged, SJ created a page, something she had been putting off for months, because now she was accountable to all of you and it became a no brainer! Support SJ’s Patreon here.

For the next evolution of the challenges we want to get all of you involved. So if you have a friend, family member or colleague you want to challenge to do something constructive and uplifting, we want to publish these challenges for you and make us all accountable to the whole Imposter community. You can do this by either replying with the challenge details to this newsletter email, and we will publish the challenge in each Podadpolooza Newsletter (every 10 episodes) - Catch our first Podadpolooza here.
Or you can tag us in an instagram story or reel which we will repost.

But remember - no trolling here (talking to you Burso), just challenges that will build your friends and family up!

Tune in to our first challenge debrief in Episode 2 - The Tony Robbins Experience (to Al’s extreme horror)

Interviewing Guests:

Expect to hear from guests from diverse backgrounds who've achieved significant milestones yet have wrestled with imposter feelings, often in silence along the way. We will aim to make sure no two guests are alike except in one critical way: They have all decided to ‘Just just do it’ - because what’s the worst that can happen! We discuss with each guest the rarely acknowledged reality that many people experience similar doubts without openly acknowledging them at the time. Our interviews aim to dismantle the myth that success comes without internal conflict, shining a light on the often hidden battles that accompany achievements.

Catch up on our first 20 episodes featuring the below Imposters:

Dan Caruana: Critical Incident Cop, Taekwando Champion and Firefighter.

Jess Taylor: Babies and Birthing stories. Journey into Motherhood.

Matt Morris: Zero Limits host, security expert and Australian soldier.

Mark McConnell: Police negotiator and professional communicator.

Joel Jammal: Journey of Faith and Influence. Host of the Ark.
